Wisdom from
Living
Are you looking for guidance and wisdom, but
aren’t comfortable with traditional sources?
* Family members
* Friends
* Rabbi, priest, ministers
And you don’t need a:
* Psychiatrist
* Psychotherapist
* Social worker
Then consider a holistic and integrative
source capable of helping you see your life
from a broad perspective.
If you’re looking for guidance and insights
to help you focus on issues and probable
outcomes, please call me.
My goal is to work with you to get a fresh,
perhaps unconventional perspective and life
plan.
Living Wisdom
In 1966, I attended graduate school in
Berkeley, California. I worked part-time in
the evenings at the information desk of a
large retirement center. Frequently, I used
my free time to study. And just as
frequently, an older resident would stop by,
sit down, and begin a long, one-sided
conversation. At first I was frustrated and
irritated by the interruptions.
However, it occurred to me that there might
be much to learn from these elders’
experiences and wisdom. I began to question
them.
“Now that you are in your elder years and
have time to look back upon your life, what
were the most valuable lessons you learned?”
“If you could
give your grandchildren some guidance and
wisdom for living their life, what would
that be?”
As an experiential learner, I found their
lessons and wisdom of life fascinating.
Being inexperienced, I did not have the
skills to ask them probing questions to
guide the course of their revelations. Had I
the skills I have now, I could have written
volumes about those conversations. Since
then, I have kept a “wisdom folder” in my
computer to store the bits and pieces of
wisdom and advice that I’ve gathered along
the way.
Of course, I’ve also had to examine my own
life of mistakes, failures, successes,
accomplishments, awards, and demerits.
Where does wisdom come from?
Wisdom comes from reflecting upon
experiences we have had in life and
distilling them as truths, lessons, and
tests. Some of the greatest experiences of
all times are occurring right now. The key
is take the time to reflect on our
experiences so that we understand what they
are telling us.
Having been a student, farmer, son, father,
brother, fireman, correctional counselor,
husband, housewright, holistic life coach,
author, publisher, friend, Viet Nam veteran,
military officer, inventor, small business
owner, business partner, manufacturing
engineer, househusband, non-profit organizer
and founder, and political futurist, all of
these roles have given me a great range of
experiences to reflect upon.
Learning the lessons and gaining the wisdom
from them, I have a deep commitment for
seeking lessons and wisdom from all sources.
Life has been tough, and it has given me the
desire to share these insights with others.
